740 Cold Start Problems 700 1990

Do as Lucid suggests (always a good idea to listen to him), but I have a couple of other points.

If your garage charged you to replace two fuel pumps, I think you need to have a talk with them. First, verify that your car has Rex/Regina engine management. The easy way to tell is that you have a square ignition coil on drivers side (North American, left hand drive cars) of engine compartment. I'm fairly certain you do have Regina, and so have only ONE fuel pump and it is in the gas tank. Read up on Regina identification in the 700/900 FAQ under "select link" at the top right of this page. or
http://brickboard.com/FAQ/700-900/700ModelData.htm#BoschorRexReginaSystems

Also read about your Crank Position Sensor(RPM sensor) there. That would be high on my list of suspects and was the cause of similar sypmtoms in one of my cars.

I also had a car that had a lot of trouble starting when it was below freezing out. I replaced the Fuel Pressure regulator because it was leaking into it's vacuum hose, not to fix the cold start problem, but replacing that did immediately fix the cold start issue.

Good luck and post back with what you find.
