Water Pump even with block? 91 240 200

Just pulled the head on my 91 240 B230F. Going to have it machined tomorrow and fix the head gasket leaks I caused by not having it machined the first time.

Just curious - how do the top of the water pump and the top of the block ideally align? Should the pump be even with the block? I looked at it differently with the head off..... and have an extra water pump gasket set laying around. Mine is 1/16" below the leading edge of the block......and am wondering if it should be lifted a little to ensure the best seal on the mushroom shaped gasket.

Any opinions? And thanks!
