Emergency flashers - turn indicators - 68 Kombi brakes 120-130

Hi Group, my blinkers have quit, they blink once, then quit, then they quit altogether! I took the "Emergency flasher" switch out and it has what looks to be a blinker relay attached to the back, three prongs in a "U" shape and a thin aluminum 'can'. Anybody know if this can be replaced with a generic type blinker or is it unique to this type of switch (used in only 68 on 122s I think, mine does not look factory so who knows?).
On another note - lookout for the rear brakes on 68 wagons! I just got mine working and it was a PITA getting them back right!

Cheers!
