Dimmer switch gone haywire and quit HELP 700 1992

MY DIMMER SWITCH/SLIDE BAR IS NOT WORKING NOW. BEFORE IT QUIT WHEN I SLID IT DOWN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER WOULD DIM BUT THE LIGHTS TO THE SHIFTER KNOB AND THE REAR ASHTRAY LIGHT WOULD BRIGHTEN (DO THE OPPOSITE)!??? A FEW MINUTES LATER THE SHIFTER/ASHTRAY LIGHTS QUIT ALTOGETHER AND THE DIMMER SWITCH/SLIDE BAR DOES NOT WORK AT ALL , BUT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER STILL LIGHTS. ANY IDEAS ON THIS CRAZY SONOFAGUN?????
