Firestone Alignment Tale //-----// = !!! 200

After replacing the rack, strut cartridges, ball joints, bushings, etc., on my 88 740, I took it to a local independent tire shop for alignment. They charged me $50, it was done in an hour, steering wheel on straight, boots not twisted, goes down the road just fine. I had previously had a problem with the same place when i took my Mercedes (78 240D) in for an alignment after doing ball joints and bushings. They tried several times and just couldn't seem to get it right. After fiddling with it for about four hours they apologized and gave me my money back, admitted that they had a new $50000 machine that no one there knew how to use properly, and told me that the Mercedes was an unusual design of front end (true) and difficult to set up properly (maybe) I then took it somewhere else and they had no trouble getting it to align. I was impressed enough by the honesty of the first shop that I took the Volvo to them, figuring it was a much more straightforward job, and being over a year later, they should have had time to figure out the new alignment rack (which apparently they had)

It sounds to me as if Firestone is trying to pull the wool over your eyes---I would say it definitely merits complaint, at least to the point of a refund, if not further
