M40 Overdrive Conversion 120-130 1967

Hello All,
I have a couple very tight nice M40 tran.s laying around and recently bought a rebuilt type "D" laycock OD unit...it was so cheap I could not pass. I have a line on a M41 layshaft, I know it is longer than the M40 layshaft. My question is: Can I "convert" an M40 to use the O.D. unit by swapping in this M41 shaft into one of my M40's? Is there any other differences betwix the M40 and M41? I have heard conflicting things from two different sources. Thanks in advance.
