This is a 93 NA 940.
I have changed at least four pumps on this car, and at least four more on the last 240, but I can't seem to get this one right. Maybe it's because so much time passes between doing them that I forget what I did the last time.
I have installed and reinstalled (3) times last night and this morning.
Everything went on nice yesterday afternoon until I came home and noticed a puddle under the car last night. I drove the car during the day and I did not notice it losing any coolant. It sat in the garage for a few hours. There was a slow drip from the back of the pump where the heater tube meets the pump body.
I knew this was a trouble area from past pump changes so I thought maybe the little ring rolled or the tube did not seat it properly. I took it all apart and put it back together again. Both times I cleaned the surfaces thoroughly. I put the ring on the tube again, and mated it up to the back of the pump. It leaks.
This morning I read some other notes on the FAQ that implied that the ring should be seated IN the pump, and the tube offered up to it. I did that and it leaked worse. A steady stream. The ring is damaged now and fortunately I have a extra.
I have another chance to get this right, but I am growing weary of doing this job over and over again. I will persevere but I need a confidence boosting injection of information.
What did I do wrong?
