start, run, die, wont start, repeat. HELP PLEASE!!!!!!!1 700 1988

i'm a 20 year old college student and have had my first car for about a year and a half now. it is a '88 740 turbo w/ just under 244k on it, me and my dad work on it when crap happens cuz i'm too poor to take it in. last winter/spring we replaced the head gasget and had the alt re-built.

now it has this thing going on where i'll be driving along and the motor will just deside it is going to turn itself off. this happens without warning, or performance issues, and all other systems function normaly: lingts, neons, atmospheric controls, stereo, windows, doors, gauges. all normal.

just motor dies, and shortly after power steering and power breaks go out too. no blown fuses, fuel pumps and relay are ok, injector noise relay seem alright (we did replace it.) fixed some frayed and almost cut wires going from ignition? to distributor?

describing my problems to friends co-workers ect. they have said it could be grounds, coil, ecu, fuel pump, "master engine fuse", injectors, spark plugs.
but i dont know. any advice?
