Rear Interior foot level light 200 1991

Ok so I have a white light on the rear of the E brake housing. Above the ashtray and seatbelt reminder light. Never really bothered with it. Got bored yesterday and decided to get it working. It works. I find it is live all the time the key is on like an instrument light. I have the early Canadian (burn your bulbs, melt your lenses) day running lights 91 version where all my lights are on all the time. Sort of defeats the purpose of a light switch unless you need to use your higbeams. Retarded actually. Anyway this light does not dim like other panel lights. it's just on all the time. Is this the way it is supposed to do? The light is not in my (bought with the car) owners manual or my Haines manual. Hmmm.....
