Seltec Diesel Kiki A/C Compressor R134a Service Port Adapters 200 1986

I purchased a Seltec Diesel Kiki Complressor from FCP Groton (Part No. 8251069R12)to replace my existing compressor as part of my R12 to R134a A/C system conversion, along with the Volvo conversion kit. The low and high service ports on the compressor are designed for R12 and need the R134a Retrofit Low & High Side Service Port Adapters. I purchased the Interdynamics R134a Retrofit Low & High Side Service Port Adapters (Model No. VA-LH11) to screw onto the existing compressor ports. Do the existing valve cores in the compressor get removed prior to screwing on the R134a adapters? The adapters have a locking adhesive so I don't get a second chance. I think the existing valve cores stay in, but need some confirmation. Thanks in advance.
