Check Engine Light ON 700

Hi Guys
During the process of changing AMMs on my 1990 740 GLE 16 valve B234 I disconnected the AMM in the car while the car was running and Check Engine light came on. I put in new AMM car is running better now but light is still on. How do I solve the problem? Am I putting anything at risk by driving the car with the light on? Tks for your help
