Testing 1975 Electronic Ignition 140-160 1975

I would like to get away from a points style distributor and I am interested in converting my '70 164 to the 1975 only electronic igniton system. I am planning on driving to a salvage yard to pick one up tomorrow (unfortunately a full days drive round trip...). I recall seeing several '75 164s in the yard. Is there any way to test the distributor or the ignition module to make sure I get a good working unit? I would bet that none of the '75s run, if that helps narrow things down. It would be a bummer to pull one and find it doesn't work when I get home..
Thanks,
Nick A.
