HELP with the alternator 200

Ok I give up! I have an problem with the charging system. I replaced the alternator and voltage regulator with a napa lifetime warranty setup. Since the replacement I have had a problem with charging. The connections between the alternator and battery are perfect (0v drop). When I hook up my volt meter to the car, before I even put the key in the ignition I see ~12.4v, start the car and the voltage drops until I rev it up over ~2k Rpm then the voltage spikes to 14.something where it should be but when I bring it back to idle it goes right back to 12.4 and even when I rev the motor again the voltage does not increase.

One more piece of the puzzle is that one day last week the alternator was charging like it should with the spade connector disconnected. ALSO, when I do plug in the spade connector and the key is off the battery light on the dash comes on strong.

I had an electrical engineer go over the car with the Bentley manual in hand and he came up empty handed too.

Giving this one a big WTF!

Thanks for any input!!!

Andrew
