kickdown cable snag 200

hi all
on the new/old 83 240 turbo is a bit of a problem.
bought car in this condition, it had a brand new looking kickdown cable but was binding and would not retract so i ordered aftermarket from fcp.
as i hooked up the new cable before putting the pan back on my son worked the gas pedal quite a few times, first slow then faster like real driving, the cable worked fine.
i test drove and all was well.
by the end of the night son says car wont shift to third, he takes a look and the cable is stuck outward and wont retract ;(
i remove pan next day on friends lift (much easier) remove cable and the mechanism inside the tranny moves freely as it did previously.
cable looks fine but wire inside will barely move. so i stripped the plastic covering looking for a problem like a dent or sharp bend but find nothing? i then continue to disect and it ends up in pieces but i find no obstruction?
anyone had this type of experience? went to volvo today and they want 130.00$ for a kickdown cable :.( (the guy says he has one in stock, i say i find that easy to believe)
do you think its a poor quality cable?
i can get a junkyard tranny for like 80 bucks but i believe the 240 turbo kickdown cable is specific to 240 turbos. (which are rare down here)
i have used fcp kickdown cables before and didnt have a problem.
what do you think about this.
thank you
mike
