high-pitched noise after highway run 900 1995

Did a return trip to the cottage yesterday to pull my sailboat out of the water, using my wife's 940 turbo. Once each way, after pulling off the highway, driving 100-120 km/hr for about an hour in each case, I could hear a high-pitched noise at idle.

First time, I manouvered into a parking space, and it had stopped before I got out.

Second time, I could hear it when I got out, but it ceased instantaneously. It didn't sound like belts. My friend who had gotten out earlier, thought it was coming from the middle of the car, not under the hood (fuel pump)?

On both occurrences, I continued driving, and it did not re-occur. First time I did more high-speed highway driving; second time it was slower backroads.

I'd be interested in anyone's theories on what this might be.
