I'm no physicist, but I've been told that the fuel/air mix has to be in a fairly narrow range, to ignite, and the mix even in a nearly empty fuel tank is FAR too rich to explode. If it were possible to blow it up, do you think any manufacturer these days would put anything electical inside the tank where it even might cause what always seems to happen to cars in movies when they contain a bad guy and crash?

I have a fuel pump replacement in my future and have never done one, so it's encouraging to hear yours wasn't too bad. Did you need to remover the fuel filler neck from the car?
