De-tuning a B18 444-544

Bob, My original post seems to have evaporated or something, but here are some thoughts I have for you.

This is a great "out of the box" idea.

You mentioned torque and that is the key in making power. I think the B-18 would probably run pretty nicely at 1800 rpm. Peak torque on the D motor is advertised at 2800 rpm. Finding an appropriate cam is probably a job for some very serious researchers. I think my power needs would be pretty well satisfied with 8 Kw or so. I've been looking for a torque curve for the B-18D and can't find one for the life of me. I know typical peak torque runs in the 100 ft lbs at 2800 rpm, but what about 1800? Any body seen one? I find myself more inclined to look at fuel and control issues since I am more comfortable there.

Fuel delivery: I like the Megasquirt for several reasons, Economy and the controllability. Operating in the close looped mode at a steady 1800 rpm the the Air/fuel mixture a could be adjusted to optimum for maximum fuel economy by tailoring the VE table. Two modes could be established: one for "Idle" to warm up the unit and a "Run" mode for power generation.

Governed Output: I lean toward the Woodward 512 Isochronus Governor. This governor will easily maintain the the output frequency to fractions of a hz over a wide range of loads. I have chance into one which has been taking up space in the garage near the spare Red Block I have resting in repose in MY garage.
