Camshaft mystery 200

Close Mike...not quite...

I believe the cam you're looking at is reground to "A" cam specs. I inquired about a similar cam a few months back. I forget if that cam was ever sold.

The problem with a reground cam is valve adjustments. Generally speaking, a reground cam is an attempt to make a silk purse from a sow's ear; meaning someone is taking a lethargic M or L cam and regrinding it to a better performing cam's specs. The B, A or K all have higher lift than the L or M. The only way to increase lift is to reduce the base circle. That, in turn, makes it necessary to add shim thickness to maintain proper clearances. Finding shims that are thick enough can be a challenge...

IMHO, you're better off buying a used original factory cam, not a regrind. The aftermarket places like Enem and KG grind their custom cams from blanks. They are not re-grinds...

BTW...cams are identified by a letter stamped on the vertical surface on the firewall end of the cam. No amount of part/casting numbers will help you identify what cam you're looking at...

And yes, like Mike said, I can help you with an A cam or K cam. Feel free to email me...

Dale
