Engine Drive Belts Mis-aligned and proposed solution...need feedback. 200 1993

I have the usual problem with (in almost EVERY 240 that I have seen); drive belts with the A/C compressor' front end tilted toward the crankshaft side of the engine. This mis alignment has caused the power steering pump to start to squeal due to the uneven pressure on the bearing.
The culprits are the mounting brackets for the A/C compressor. These are too thin to resist the inward pressure of the belts.
NOW for the proposed solution. I went to the Pick N Pull junkyard (ooops...'recycling center')and got TWO sets of brackets (total of 8 pieces). Now I am having a machine shop tack weld 2 brackets together so that the resulting bracket will be TWICE as thick as the OEM. I suspect I may not be able to use all 4 of my doubled brackets due to aligning the belt, but even if I get to install the 2 rear ones it should be an improvement to resist twisting.

Anybody done this before?
gracias,
el raidman
