rear fog lites 900 1993

so, while doing some maintinence on our 93 945, i noticed that we only have a l side rear fog lite. well, i never had any rear fog lites before, but since this car has them, i want them to work.

so I pulled the r side lite cover off, and it seems that the RR taillite assy has been replaced, with a unit that doesn't have a lite socket for this feature. it seems , by looking it over in the car, that i may be able to punch out the area and simply add the socket. has anyone had expierience with these? it seems that the wiring is there- a gray wire is taped up on the harness.

on the other hand, looking at eeuroparts it seems that some cars have 3 sockets on L side, 2 on R side?
