wiper switch problem 700

The ' 87 740 GLE wagon's wiper switch is acting weird. When I pull the handle back to turn on the washer motor, the rear wiper starts moving and then slows down. I thought that the wagons had a separate switch for the rear washer motor. If they're both supposed to operate at the same time, I'm still confused why the rear wiper stops in the middle of the glass and then slowly moves to the park position.
