Trunk latch issue 200 1989

My son drives my '89 240 GL sedan with the servo door locks. Unlocking the car door with the key unlocks all the doors and the trunk too. At least it used to. Unlocking the door no longer unlocks the trunk. Further, the key won't unlock the trunk either without several minutes of key jiggling. Locking the doors locks the trunk again. Looking at the well engineered bracing on the trunk itself reveals little about the mechanism lurking beneath. Before I start removing bolts and squinting into small holes, does anyone have any experience with this?

Thanks
