Front strut top nut removal question 200 1986

Next weekend I'll be replacing front and rear shocks. I've seen the top nut removal tool sold by IPD that allows you to turn the nut while holding the top of the strut with a pair of vice grips, etc. I have an electric impact wrench with deep sockets. Would this be enough to remove and tighten the nut on top without the need for this $28 tool?

Thanks.
