OK, today, for the 2nd time in the year I've owned it, my '93 dropped all it's coolant and left me trying to inch my way home, one gallon at a time, without overheating. I finally said, "Screw it," this time and called a tow truck to minimize damage.
First time was easy - O-ring got pinched when I replaced the water pump and blew out.
This time, the leak - not a slow one - is coming from somewhere behind the timing case, it would seem. I have yet to strip the front of the engine to find it.
I think I caught it before damage was done, but I was on the interstate when I chanced to look at the tach and noticed the Check Engine light. Looked at the temp gauge and it was topped out. Pulled over and finally saw the steam roll up out of the hood.
Until I find the leak, how bad is overheating the engine and how do you know if you've done damage?
One of the few damn malfunctions that can cripple a 240 enough to warrant a tow, and it keeps happening to this one...I swear, after this I'm making a hose that I can feed a constant supply of water while I drive to keep the engine cool while I get home.
