Rear Window electric defroster too weak... 200 1985

My rear window electric defroster is working very weakly(starts to defrost from the middle to 3/4 of the whole line) plus 3 lines are dead. This past summer I used a volt meter to detect any breaks but I couldn't find anything visible. I used conductive paint on the edges connecting the lines to the side strips as a precaution.

However the first time I used the defroster last week it seems the lines are still weak. After doing some search on the internet it seems that on the older Volvos the conductive strip is flaking off with the years.

Has anyone repaired the strips using an alternative way? Maybe I will have to repaint the whole strips end to end.

Any recommendations?

Thanks....
