Just witness an accident involving a semi and a 1983 240, happened right in front of me.
I was at a cross road intersection waiting on the red light. As traffic was passing thru the intersection, a 240 slowed down in the middle trying to make a right turn (we drive on the right over here). A semi probably doing about 40mph, in the wrong lane, hit the left rear of the 240 at full force, sending it spinning like a top.
Guess what? When the car stop spinning, the guy managed to drive the car away from the intersection onto the side. I came up to him. He was unhurt, just shocked. The entire rear end of the 240 had crumpled, yet none of the glass was broken, and the bumper was still there, although mangled. Both rear lights were gone. No deformation of the safety cage whatsoever and all the doors opened without any problems. Me and the driver agreed that if it wasn't a Volvo, moreso a 240, he might not be so lucky. I waited for the cops to come before leaving.
Yet another grim reminder of how faithful a Volvo is, saving its owner by giving itself up.
