This is NOT a car-related question. It is a commentary on the lifestyle that I imagine to be typical of bricksers.
I think that a brickster is someone who was taught by his children-of-the-depression parents to be frugal, and woke up to find himself in a throw-away economy. A brickster is someone who is proud of his use of junkyard parts. The only thing better than using junk yard parts is taking some parts from electrical junk box or the metal pile behind the garage, and making a tool or part that is better and stronger than the original.
Our children will never understand this. I wish they did, yet I hope they are never forced to.
I was inspired to start this thread by, of all things, my belt. The belt was given to me by a co-worker who out-grew it. I loved it because the buckle is very strong and has two tongues, which made the belt strong enough that I could hang a pouch of welding rods from it. When the leather rotted and failed, I bought a strap of high quality leather, punched, oiled and dyed it, and rivited it to the two-tongue buckle. That was 35 years ago, and it still looks pretty good.
So what about the rest of you? Do you have a hobby or possession (other than your brick) that is a metaphore for who you are and the way you view the world?
