auto transmission doesn't lock wheels 200 1978

I recently bought this car. I haven't had any issues with the transmission, no noticable leaks, fluid looks nice and red, but it won't hold the car in place in park. I read in my manual about adjusting the shift linkage, and it sounds like something I should do, but that cant possibly be responsible for this can it? I guess I'm just wondering if this is something I should be worried about. Any thoughts?
