Power window problem 200 1989

The windows in the 240 wouldn't go up or down last night. I tried the master control on the driver's side and each individual switch, but got nothing. I took apart the relay, no obvious damage. I took apart the driver's side switch, cleaned them all, put it back together and voila, everything was fine.

This morning I rolled the window down on the way to work but when I got to the office and tried to roll it up it wouldn't go. There's a volvo pick n pull nearby so I went over and got a relay, changed it, and still nothing.

I redid the melted window wiring that's behind the dash when I bought the car almost three years ago, and I checked the fuse- it's OK.

Any ideas why they won't work?
