bypassing A/C to get power steering back. 200 1985

i just bought an 85 240dl wagon that is without power steering. i just heard a rumor that the A/C and power steering are interconnected and that i could bypass the A/C (which doesn't work now either) to get the steering to function normally again. anyone willing to bring truth to that rumor, or is there a better way to go about fixing the steering? any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you.
