found source of oil loss/burning

hi all
a few months ago i posted about my duaghters 94 940 w/121,000 apparently burning oil, because the underside is unbeliveablely clean. i recently replaced the oil seperator and did a oil change, since then the car
has used 1/2 quart of 20/50 in 3,000 miles. not real bad but not real good.
i changed plugs today (thought i did this at 85,000 when she got car) but i realized i did not because volvo plugs were in the car.
anyway the rear spark plug shows whiteish ash on the top part, the other three are fine. my friend said it is probably a valve seal. i hope thats all because he says he can fix without pulling the head.
i dont work on engine insides so i do not have any experience with this situation. (reading does not count for experience in my book).
so what do you'all think?
thanks again
mike
