Leaking coolant from expansion tank 900 1997

My 1997 Volvo 960 wagon has recently begun to lose some coolant. I have not been able to find what's causing it. It seems to happen only after the engine has reached operating temperature.

It appears that the "leak" is coming from the bottom of the overfill/expansion tank at a point where there's an electrical sensor plugged in.

Has anyone heard of these tanks going bad? Can I install one without too much effort (meaning...will it hurt the pressurized system to disconnect this thing in order to replace it with a new one? Also, when reconnecting everyting...do i need special silicone to make tight seals?

Thanks in advance for your help.
