Satisfaction = rebuilt power antenna 900

I got a new antenna mast from IPD (~$30 I think), and I took the power antenna apparatus out of my '92 944 on Sunday afternoon around 4 PM. I took apart the whole thing, removed the old broken mast, and carefully cleaned up all the corrosion and grime by 6 PM. Went bowling. Came home at 9 PM and had the thing reassembled, relubed, and tested by 10:30 PM. This morning I spent 15 minutes installing the repaired unit, and before going to work I was able to turn on the radio and see the little antenna go up and down. I saved some money compared with buying a new unit from Volvo, -- but that's beside the point. I also get the satisfaction of seeing that stupid little device function because I fixed it. I am happy with it.

Having said that, I have a 2" metal sleeve left over that I found in the package. Anybody else do this repair? Did you install the sleeve? The antenna seems to fit and work fine without it...

Thanks.
