M40 Gear Box Noise 444-544

Hi guys. On my '56 PV 444, the PO installed a B18D engine along with a M40 gear box and complete rear-end. I've been dirving the car daily, and I'm now hearing a noise coming from the gear box. The noise has a metallic sound to it. I'm sorry, but I can't be anymore specific. Could a worn synchromesh cause the noise? The gear box shifts through all gears with no problem whatsoever. Furthermore, it does not "jump" out of gear. I've already confirmed that the noise is not coming from the engine. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Patrick
