Blower Motor: 'Traditional' replacement vs. 'Chainsaw method' 200 1991

It is a cold MN week, and the blower motor does nothing but howl. I don't have a heated garage, and will need to be doing this job out in the driveway.

Needless to say, I would like to do this as efficient as possible. Should it be nicer out, I would like to take everything apart and check out other things while in there (I would like to put in a tach, replace cracked dash, etc.), but as it is I want to get in and out. I recognize this will still take some time.

How many here have used the "chainsaw method" as described in the following website?

I recognize it is a "hack" way to do it, but it seems to make sense, and I can't really see much of a negative: the RTV to seal up the side panels seems "tacky", but probably makes subsequent access to the motor much easier.

Alternatively, I have found (through this site!) the more traditional instructions:

Any advice, opinions? I am fairly skinny and was hoping to wiggle around down there without having to remove the dash either way.
