240/740 alternator compatibility 200 1987

Can I put an alternator from a 240 into a 740 esily enough? My 245 has a bad heater core (thanks to Art and volvodad and bcg for their diagnoses) and it looks like I have access to a 740 with a bad alternator. I happen to have a spare new alternator from another 240 and it sure would be slick if that would work. Same engine, right? So same alternator should work, right?
