Turn Signals Blink Erratically 900 1996

About 6 months ago my turn signals began to blink erratically and once my horn sounded for about 30 seconds. I figured there might be something wrong with my alarm since the red indicator on the dash no longer blinked and I couldn't reset it with the remote either. A couple of days later I could not start the engine. My mechanic said I had a bad battery. I replaced it and the problems went away. They just returned again yesterday. Could it be another bad battery (I haven't had it tested yet) or is there a short circuit somewhere that needs to be fixed. If there is a short circuit, could the drain on the battery be so slow that it would take 6 months to drain the battery to the level where the turn signals would blink erratically--assuming that a low battery can cause the signals to blink? What else could cause the turn signals to blink?
