adapting a small 240 tach to earlier (120) car? 120-130 1968

I am interested in adapting the small (52mm) tachometer that was an option on later cars (240 series and possibly others) to a older 122 wagon with a point and coil type ign. system. I am not sure that this would be easily done as the "pin out" and harness are gone from the tach that I would use.
Were these tachs driven by a coil output or from an engine management system, and does anyone know what the various connectors (on tach) should hook to?

TIA & Cheers!
