windshield chrome installation 120-130

I wanted to know if it would be easier to install the windshield chrome already in the rubber gasket? opposed to trying to put the chrome on while the gasket is already on.it seems easier to me if the chrome is already on the gasket then just put the gasket on. would the windshield have to come out to install the gasket and chrome together...can someone shed some light on this for me .
