After doing the windshield on my 544 a few years ago and the rear window on my 145 last weekend, I would always put the chrome on the gasket first and then the gasket on the window and then the window into the car.

I had to walk away from the 145 installation a few times. Patience is required! But after taking my time and two attempts, I am pleased with the results. I used soapy water the second time to assist in both the install of the chrome and putting the window back it. Unbelievable how much easier it made it.

I remember trying to remove the chrome from the 544 windshield while it was still in the car. What a mistake, ended up bending the chrome....ARGH (blame it on youth). That time I was convinced that I'd never try to mess with the chrome surround unless the window was out of the car.

Good luck, remember be patient and walk away for a while if things aren't going well.
