Power steering

After reading the 700/900 faq I read that putting a magnet in the power steering reservoir before changing the fluid is a good idea. Is it simply a case of dropping a small earth magnet in the reservior and cleaning it off until I get around to changing it. Any threat of the magnet plugging the feeder hole of the reservior? Seems like a good idea. Thanks and Merry Xmas.
