Q: Whip hose - Lead hose - Snubber hose - best length?

Q:
I need to install what is called an air whip hose, some call it a lead hose, Goodyear calls it a snubber hose. Assuming whoever answers this post has one, I was wondering what you think is the best length to get? The most common length is 30." They come in 12" 18" 24" 30" 36" 60" 72." Snap-on sells a 60," and they usually think things out well in advance of producing a tool. I can see problems with it being too long as well as too short. The problem with the real short ones is the brass npt fitting hitting the body of the vehicle, but of course it could be wrapped with tape or something protective, etc.

But, I also got to thinking that even 60" (5 ft) one would have to have the brass npt fitting taped off if you were sanding a roof, and as long as you had to cover a longer whip, then why not just cover a shorter one.

The other problem with a long one is that I have an in-line plastic desiccant filter and I seem to be accidentally tripping over things laying around the garage floor (sooner or later), and a friend suggested it would be too easy to step on it, and I cannot disagree.

There may be other things to consider too, like if I have to use an impact up under the transmission area where things get tight, wouldn't a short whip, like one 12' present clearance problems? I wonder if that is why the most common length is the 2.5 ft size, and the marketing people learned that was the best choice?
