87 240 Cooling/Engine problems 'End of Days?' 200

Woops.
Anyway. My 240 is having major probs.
First the waterpump was leaking from what I belived was the weep-hole.
Go and install water pump.
The next day the car took at dump on me. Found out the harmonic balancer/crank pulley, seperated. Went and get new one and installed it.
Went and started it and took it out for a test ride. It was running with a little "pinging type" sound and it lurched one me a few times when it first was going.
Got it home and found the radiator, or at least the top of the radiator, and the upper hose was cooking hot. The lower hose and the rez coolant was still cold.
I can only think theres something blocked, crap waterpump even though its new.
Or theres something really bad going on. Oh please not a head gasket.

The car has a ton of miles and has served me well. I dont want to let it go right now. Just spent
$260 tires
$57 waterpump
$80 harmonic balencer

Any ideas?
