I'm back online... albeit with dialup. Yuck.

My 90 740t has two issues:
a torn boot a bit of play in the passenger outer tie rod (lube is dry)
A worn power steering pump mount.

I read what was in the FAQ and it sounds like removing the tie rod isn't too big a job. I haven't tackled anything that big yet on my own. Stuck bolts probably won't be a problem for me, but the counting of turns on the bolt... is there another way to keep the alignment reliably?

On the Power Steering Pump- I think that the dealer (kruse Lucas) put in the wrong bolt for the steering pump so that the nut wouldn't tighten up to the bracket. This has allowed my pump to pull against the sheet metal and wear the hole into an ellipse. It's gotten so bad that the pump deflects about half an inch in either direction, squeals, and doesn't put much power in the steering. The belt is recent, don't blame it on that.
I am going to replace the mount bracket probably. I bought the new bolt from the dealer but it appears to be the same length.
Is the bolt designed to stick out so far that I can't tighten the nut to the bracket? This seems like a stupid design, so I think it must be the wrong mount or pump. My plan for now is to bridge the gap with washers and a lock washer between the nut and the bracket so it's tight, then replace the bracket when I get a little time off.
