What's wrong with Stromberg CD2 175 Carbs? 120-130

These came stock on many volvos and I got a pair with my parts haul. I got a bit curious and opened one up to check the condition of the diaphram. At least in this one, it is perfect. The float setup, ball-bearing jet, and general throttle setup appear as good or better than the SUs (HS6/HIF6) that I've messed with.
I recall hearing that they are not as efficient. Aside from that anecdote, I'm left wondering why these carbs are so maligned. They seem pretty nice...

Any opinions/warnings?
