I know you're excited about your discovery, but please pardon me for suggesting the following comments.
Four important questions (although I'm sure that you know what you're doing, considering the description of your car's components -- very impressive -- in your signature):
1) Is the gasket surface at the exact same radial distance from center as on the OEM filters?
2) Do these filters have a reliable check valve?
3) What is the micron size for these filters, compared to Volvo's filter?
4) What is the filter area of these filters, compared to Volvo's?
Re "larger filter", what does that really mean? I take it (from your description) that the exterior can is larger. Do you think that can size always reflects filter area? Have you bought a bag of potato chips lately? Or a can of coffee? These containers have staid the same, but the contents are less. Same with oil filters -- some are packed with element, and some aren't, and it isn't revealed by can size.
Why are you looking for a different filter? Why do you think that the stock Volvo filter is inadequate? It's internal construction and area of the filter element has been shown (here on this forum) to be far better than similarly sized filters! And a larger exterior can in no way reflects the filter element's surface area -- it may impress buyers, but it's of no importance, as the filter inside could be loosely folded and house an actually smaller area filter than the Volvo's that could have more area folded into a smaller can.
I wouldn't change filters unless I took apart a sample to see the internal construction and measured the area of the filter against a Volvo filter.
I hope this works out for you, but be a little more skeptical, for the sake of your engine.
Best regards, and happy holidays.
