volvo issued a parts bulletin in the 80's that said don't do that. even the newer filters are shorter than the 1's we were using in the 80's-1266286. it's about 1/2 longer than the newest 1-3517857. seems people were using the d24 filter and word got to nj when the 4cyl engine harmonics shook the filter body from the threaded base. it acts like a cantilever and vibrations get the best of it, the seam leaks and the engine dies from no oil. and so it goes, chuck.
