A/C Compressor Bearing Question 900

'94 960 has noise coming from the A/C compressor bearing. It doesn't spin smoothly, so I'm assuming it's headed for a seized bearing at some point in the future.

Hence my questions: can I replace just the bearing, or will I need to purchase an A/C clutch/bearing assembly? The faq addresses only the clutch with no mention of just the bearing. And I'd like to do it without opening the A/C system. Is this a straight-forward process to remove the clutch and bearing with the compressor in place?

Also, I'd welcome suggestions for a source for the bearing that doesn't involve a dealer. No mention of a bearing on the websites for FCP Groton or Import Parts Specialists.

Regards,

Robert
