B 6304 Head Problems 900 1995

Any oil accumulation on the top of the head in the region of the coil packs & spark plug wells most certainly did come from the top head section. It would have to be high up. I would think that the oil filler cap gasket would be a likely culprit, and unless you had looked under the plastic cover recently, the accumulation could have occurred over some lengthy period of time. You can just clean it all out & get it dry and keep an eye on it to find the source.

Regarding the other leak in the rear right corner area, this is certainly a different leak. I don't think there is ANY coolant communication into the top head section. If you're seeing coolant dye back there, then it's got to be in the lower head section or head gasket seepage.

You should quantify the rate of coolant loss. If the rate of leakage is low; a cup in a month or two, then there might be some other measures that you could take.

Replacing the head gasket is a hard job. I wouldn't venture to think about doing that unless I had a serious coolant leak or seepage into the cylinders causing misfires when the car is started cold.

You can also do a chemical test for the presence of exhaust gases in the coolant. It's a cheap and easy test to do, but even with a slight 'positive' test, I would still wait for the misfire condition of some evidence of coolant in the cylinders before taking the head off.
