Wacky Windshield Wipers 200 1984

hey all

happy (almost) new year!

I have a bizzar problem with my windshield wipers. A few days ago, after owning the car for a month without a problem, the windshield wipers on my 1984 DL sw began acting strange. I was going down the highway and while they were turned on, the one in front of the passenger seat began going way off beat. This happened for a few minutes until it got so bad that the two blades were hitting each other. I though maybe the nut was loose so i tightened it up and they worked fine when i tried to wash the window. Again I was on the highway in the rain and they started doing the same thing except this time the driver's side blade got stuck in the vertical position. I stopped and pushed both into the resting position and they were doing fine for a few days until it happened again. This time, the passenger side blade got stuck under the chrome trim and only the drivers side wiper was working. I haven't done anything differently, except I added Rain-X add-in fluid to the washer liquid, could this have caused a problem (I doubt it but I had to ask)?

Thanks
BRANDON
